No. 2108

Coëlum non Regem mutant, qui trans mare currunt. They change their sky but not their sovereign, who sail across the sea.

CONSECRATED 24 NOVEMBER 1885  ·  FREEMASONS' HALL, LONDON

Founded at the height of the Victorian era to be the Masonic home of the Empire in London. The Lodge has met continuously through the reigns of six monarchs — Victoria, Edward VII, George V, George VI, Elizabeth II, and now Charles III — and is a member of the Commonwealth Lodges’ Association, linking UGLE Lodges with a Commonwealth connection worldwide. Over the century that followed it received Colonial Premiers, Indian Maharajas, a Japanese Ambassador, a Sultan, and members of the British Royal Family — and produced from its own membership the Deputy Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England. A Hall Stone Lodge. Listed in the Nazi Black Book. A founding lodge of the Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London. Still meeting today.

The Lodge is in a period of considered renewal, guided by a ten-year plan focused on membership growth, officer succession, and ritual excellence — building toward its 150th anniversary in 2035. Empire Chapter No. 2108 — the Lodge’s paired Royal Arch Chapter, sharing the same name, number, and banner — has been restored to full health. Lodge and Chapter are a matched pair, as they were always intended to be.
